Ruschia pulvinaris
Shrubby Ice Plant (Ruschia pulvinaris) (Bolus): A wonderful, frost hardy ground cover that grows well around rocks. This shrubby succulent has branching stems covered with long, firm, awl-shaped leaves. The blue-green foliage is smooth to the touch but patterned with tiny dots. This prolific bloomer produces lots of magenta flowers in the growing season. The flowers are made up of many thin petals and open in sunny weather.
Ruschia are easy, frost hardy plants that thrive outdoors with full sun and great drainage. Plant in raised beds or containers with drainage holes and mix 50% coarse sand, pumice, or perlite into the soil to prevent rot. Regular water will help young plants establish roots and spread quickly, but mature Ruschia can tolerate several months of drought.
